Competition Rules

 

• The competition is open to all amateur photographers resident in New Zealand.Professionals (defined as having earned 20% or more of their income through photography at any time) are barred from entry, as are commissioned images, images used for a commercial purpose, or images entered in other photography competitions.


• Images that are heavily digitally altered will not be accepted as entries.


• Each person can submit a maximum of 8 photographic entries overall. You can choose how many you submit to each category.


• Entries will be judged by a panel of judges – this is a blind judging process.


• The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.


• The competition closes 12pm, 4th September 2024 No entries will be accepted after this date and time.


• All entries must be submitted online. Please submit 


• Images submitted must not be commissioned images, images used for a commercial purpose, or images which have won in other photography competitions.


• The entrant must be the original author of the work entered as described in the Copyright Act 1994. Any attempt at plagiarism, such as copying the composition of another artist’s image, will result in immediate disqualification.


• Subjects of photographs can be from any location worldwide as long as it falls within 1 year prior to closing date (4th September 2023)


• The entrants consent to their photographic entries being used for future exhibitions and marketing held by the Dunedin School of Architecture.


• Photos to be of already built, physical buildings.

• Images must be in singular image format. Collages and image series will not be accepted.


• Winners may be contacted for a larger resolution image for display/printing purposes. Winning images will be displayed during the Architecture Week.

 


ENTRY SPECIFICATIONS

• Image files must be named with the following, Category_FullName_ImageTitle. For example, Architecture Landscape_John Smith_Bach by the Sea.

• To be entered into the student award, Image files must be named the following,  Category_Student_FullName_ImageTitle.


• Maximum file size 20MB


• Photos must be submitted as JPEG files. They can be portrait or landscape orientation.


• We recommend you leave the format of your image in standard rectangle shape.


• Borders, watermarks, signatures or other additions will result in images being disqualified.

• Failure to comply with the above requirements will result in disqualification.

PRIZES

Supreme Award:
The Supreme Award honors the most outstanding image selected from all four categories. This prestigious accolade celebrates unparalleled creativity, technical prowess, and artistic vision, setting a benchmark of excellence within the competition.

Category Awards (one for each category):
Category Awards recognize the pinnacle of achievement within each of the four distinct categories. Each award celebrates the image that exemplifies exceptional skill, creativity, and alignment with the unique themes of its respective category.

Resene Colour Award:
The Resene Colour Award commends the image that most vividly and effectively showcases vibrant color. This award highlights the use of color as a powerful visual element, rewarding creativity and innovation in color composition.

Student Award:
The Student Award recognizes the best overall image submitted by a student currently enrolled in Tertiary or High School education. This award celebrates emerging talent, exceptional creativity, and technical skill among young photographers, fostering their growth and recognition within the photographic community.
